Four steps, no rushing
A film job lives or dies on the install. Buff X lays every panel by hand in a climate-controlled bay and puts the workmanship warranty in writing.
We wash and decontaminate your car so that no dirt or debris gets trapped under the film.
We computer-cut our film so it's tailored to your exact vehicle.
Each piece of film is laid down by panel in our climate-controlled bay.
We perform a thorough vehicle inspection, let the film cure, and walk you through post-care before pickup.

Buff X Customization in Dearborn Heights, Michigan has worked on more than 5,000 cars since 2018, and we know what Michigan roads do to paint. Paint protection film (PPF) is the clear layer that takes the rock chips, road salt, sand, bird poop, and tree sap, so your paint never feels them. Every piece is computer-cut to your exact year, make, and model and laid by hand in our climate-controlled bay.
Front End starts at $2,300 and covers the bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, headlights, and fog lights, which is where most chips land. High Impact starts at $3,200 and adds the rockers, roof, and rear impact areas. Full Vehicle starts at $5,500 for a coupe, $7,000 for a sedan, and $9,449 for an SUV or truck. Front End and High Impact are done in a day, a full car in 3 to 4 days. The film self-heals light swirls and lasts 5 to 10 years.

Get My PPF QuoteMostly the front. Rock chips land on the front bumper and the leading edge of the hood at highway speed, grit thrown off the front tires peppers the fenders and mirrors, and sand and salt work on the rocker panels all winter. That is why Front End is the package most drivers pick, and why High Impact adds the rockers, the roof, and the rear impact areas that catch what the tires throw back.
First thing every rock chip, bug, and parking tap hits.
Highway chips land here at speed. The most-hit panel on the car.
Sandblasted by grit on every drive and easy to forget.
Grit thrown off the front tires peppers the leading edges.
Sand and salt kicked up off the road all winter.
The rear tires throw grit back at the panels behind them.
Front End, starting at $2,300, covers the six spots that take the most chips and is done in a day. High Impact, starting at $3,200, adds the rocker panels, the roof, and the rear impact areas, and still takes a day. Full Vehicle wraps every painted panel plus the lights and door edges, takes 3 to 4 days, and starts at $5,500 for a coupe, $7,000 for a sedan, and $9,449 for an SUV or truck. The table shows exactly which panels each package covers.

Heads up: PPF is a physical film that stops chips. If you are after gloss and easier washing, that is ceramic coating, a different service we also do, and plenty of drivers put ceramic over their PPF.

Color PPF changes the color of your whole car and protects the paint at the same time. It stops rock chips the same way our clear film does, with the color built into the film. Every color PPF job starts with a consultation, because the right color and film are easier to pick with the car in front of you.
Paint protection film at Buff X starts at $2,300 for Front End, $3,200 for High Impact, and $5,500 for Full Vehicle on a coupe, $7,000 on a sedan, and $9,449 on an SUV or truck. Those are starting points, bigger vehicles can run more, so you get an exact price with your quote. Financing is available on jobs over $1,000.
At Buff X, the Front End and High Impact PPF packages are done in a day. Full Vehicle PPF takes 3 to 4 days, because every painted panel is prepped and covered one at a time.
Any time of year. Rock chips happen in every season, and the sooner the film is on, the fewer your paint collects. We especially recommend it before winter, when Michigan roads fill with salt, sand, and grit and the front of the car takes the most hits. Most PPF jobs get on the calendar within the week.
Paint protection film typically lasts 5 to 10 years, depending on how the car is driven and how it is cared for. Buff X installs Hexis Defense film, which carries a 10-year warranty against yellowing and resists stains and discoloration the whole time it is on. Its top layer self-heals light swirls with heat from the sun or warm water, and when it is time to replace it, film on healthy factory paint comes off clean.
PPF self-heals light swirls and fine wash marks with a little heat from the sun or warm water. It will not erase a deep key scratch, no film does. What it does is take the chips and grit so they never reach your paint.
Barely. Clear PPF (some people still call it a clear bra) sits flat against the paint and keeps the factory gloss, so most people will never know it is there. Up close you may spot a fine edge where the film on a panel ends. If you would rather have a matte look, that is stealth PPF, and color PPF changes the color while it protects.
Yes. The film sits between your paint and whatever lands on the car, so road salt, sand, tree sap, bird poop, and bugs sit on the film instead of eating into your clear coat. Wash them off when you can so they do not bake on, and the paint underneath stays untouched.
Wait about a week before the first wash. The film goes on with a slip solution that needs a few days to dry out and bond to the paint, and washing too early can lift an edge. Small water bubbles or a light haze in the first few days are normal and clear up on their own. After that, hand wash or use a touchless car wash, keep a pressure washer away from the film edges, and skip brush car washes.
They do different jobs. PPF is a thick film that physically stops rock chips. Ceramic coating is a thin layer that adds gloss and makes washing easier, and it does not stop a chip. A lot of drivers do PPF on the front and ceramic over the whole car.
Most chips land on the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors, which is exactly what Buff X's Front End package covers and why it is the most popular one. High Impact adds the rockers, roof, and rear impact areas for cars that see a lot of highway. Full Vehicle is for cars you want flawless on every panel for years.
Buff X installs Hexis Defense paint protection film, which comes ceramic coated and carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing. On top of that, every install gets Buff X's 1-year workmanship warranty on the installation, in writing.
Film does not hide a chip that is already there, it seals it in. That is why Buff X touches up existing chips first, then lays the film over the repaired paint so it stays that way.
Color PPF at Buff X is quoted per vehicle after a consultation. The price depends on the film brand (3M, STEK, Hexis, PPG, or Avery Dennison), the color you pick, and the size of the vehicle, and it goes on the full car. Financing is available on jobs over $1,000.
Color PPF is better at protecting the paint: it stops rock chips and self-heals light scratches, which a vinyl wrap does not. A wrap wins on color choice and price. For a car you plan to keep and drive through Michigan winters, color PPF is worth the difference.
Yes. Buff X installs windshield protection film starting at $499, on its own or with any PPF package, to keep rock chips off the glass.
While your car is here, a lot of drivers pair PPF with window tinting or put a ceramic coating over the top. Want a matte finish? See stealth PPF, or change the color with color PPF. Windshield protection film keeps chips off the glass too. See finished cars on our work. We install PPF for drivers from Dearborn, Livonia, Westland, Canton, Taylor, and the rest of the areas we serve, all from our window tinting, PPF, and car customization shop in Dearborn Heights.
